Religious holidays in schools

July
1

A battle is shaping up in New York City over whether to add two Muslim holidays to the school calendar. The City Council is in favor, Mayor Michael Bloomberg is opposed.

As the Muslim population grows, it’s a debate many areas will face.

Here’s an idea: Set aside a certain number of holidays and let students take the ones they observe. They might indicate at the beginning of the year what days they would take off.

Maybe it wouldn’t be workable, maybe it would. But wouldn’t it be better than just skipping school because your holiday isn’t recognized.

As it is the jewish Holidays win ouit over catholic holidays. you know there is a separation between church and state. and the fact that schools take off for the holidys is a little bit of a mixed message.
But fair is fair. if the kids get 2 catholic and 5 jewish then muslims should get teh same as the catholics.. and the Jewish kids need to lose 3 ;-)
I honestly feel that the Biggest holidays for all teh religions should try to be observed.
