Sarah Palin and eBay

September
22

In my column today, I note that Gov. Sarah Palin’s claim about selling her predecessor’s corporate jet just doesn’t fly.

“That luxury jet was over the top,” Palin, the Republican vice presidential nominee, told the Republican convention. “I put it on eBay.”

But it didn’t sell on eBay, I wrote. It sold later—at a loss.

And readers wrote in to complain.

“I’d like to see you sell an eight year old plane for a profit,” wrote one.

Another commented online: ”(D)id you ever sell a used car and make a profit? Alaska paid under $2.7 million for it and sold it two years later for $2.1 million. Tell us what the depreciated value should have been?…”

Fair enough as far as it goes. Only Palin implied that she sold the plane on eBay. And had a lot of people believing that she had. Including…

“You know what I enjoyed the most? She took the luxury jet that was acquired by her predecessor and sold it on eBay—and made a profit!” McCain said (two days after the convention.)

Oops.

Nice backpedaling. You parroted a DNC talking point-that Palin sold the plane for a lossand got caught. Palin said she put the plane up for sale on eBay. She did. McCain goofed in retelling the story, but your column was about Palin, not McCain. Oops-yourself.

The sale of the luxury jet will continue to save Alaska’s taxpayers a lot of money in the long-run and also gave away a perq of office that Palin could have enjoyed as governor. That shows what kind of leader, and real person, Palin is. But you missed that real story in favor of a Democrat sound bite, which shows a lack of critical thinking skills and downright poor journalism.

How about some “ooops” by Biden? Suggestions needed? OK, how about his comments about the Great Depression and how FDR went on TELEVISION.

    Wrong President….No TV.

With the democrat-taling point: HE’S OUT OF TOUCH.

But it’s not McCain, it’s Biden who seems a little “foggy.”

PUT THAT IN YOUR COLUMN … JOURNALIST.
