On the occasion of today’s holiday, Joseph Cummins, author of “Anything for a Vote: Dirty Tricks, Cheap Shots, and October Surprises in U.S. Presidential History,” takes a look at what he calls “the obscure would-be presidential candidates of history.”
For example: Lewis Cass, a former governor of Michigan, whose name unfortunately rhymed with gas and who was satirized as “The Gas Bag.”
