The quotes of the year

December
19

Here are the year’s best quotes as compiled by the editor of The Yale Book of Quotations.

At the top of the list: “Don’t tase me, bro.”

That was from the student being removed from a speech by Sen. John Kerry.

Second, Lauren Upton, the Miss Teen America contestant on why one-fifth of Americans can’t locate their country on a map:

“I personally believe that U.S. Americans are unable to do so because some people out there in our nation don’t have maps and I believe that our education like such as in South Africa and Iraq and everywhere like such as and I believe that they should our education over here in the U.S. should help the U.S. or should help South Africa and should help Iraq and the Asian countries so we will be able to build up our future for us.”

Again please.

Also on the list, according to the Associated Press:

Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad at Columbia University, “In Iran we don’t have homosexuals like in your country.”

Idaho Sen. Larry Craig, ”(I have) a wide stance when going to the bathroom.”
